SAMSUNG MTB SERIES - THIRD LEG - SEPTEMBER 2011

A note from one of the riders, Zinon

Kargo National

Kloofzicht Lodge was once again a challenging venue. After almost 40 minutes of driving one has to endure the hardships of free beer, great music, and a fantastic buffet ………. we even forced to drink our pre-race coffee out of porcelain cups…..! To compound issues further, it was a sunny, dry day with no mud and just the right amount of wind.

Gilbert’s solo performance in the Magalies Adventure made him, by default, the captain of our Kargo team. Stef was our self appointed technical advisor, who gave us strict instructions to ride at a ‘relaxed pace’ and assured us that he would be ‘holding the back’ of the team…..well, that was the last we saw of him in the frantic 42.6 km sprint we embarked upon for the remainder of the morning, whilst we tried to stay within sight of the Italian stripes on the bottom of his see-through cycling shorts. I was also reprimanded for talking to other cyclists during the closing stages of the race.

On the Subject of shorts, Leigh was particular in selecting the sharpest rock in the drop-off to create a more ‘daring ‘ look to her standard issue (non-Kargo) shorts. Her team mate, Alan, witnessed the whole event, and is in the process of filing a claim for damages due to the negligent positioning of a potentially dangerous object by the race organises.

The missing lycra certainly caught the eye of the race announcer and earned Leigh a complimentary tequila shot, which Bruce comfortably took care of in her absence, as payback for the Honda Classic…..Yes ! ….Bruce is back! ……his sharpness and speed were evident in the way he brushed Ammar aside to get to the free tequila

For the fist time in history of the corporate challenges, Manny didn’t win a prize by not being there. Yep, he was enjoying cappuccinos and ‘Eggs Benedict’ at the V&A Waterfront to overcome his holiday over-indulgence. Our fearless leader, Captain Ritalin was also absent as he was unfortunately unsuccessful in arranging his weekend pass, or so he tells us. We all know that he is scared of mud and prefers the shorter, early morning weekday road rides.

Once again, Thanks to Leg…oops…I meant Leigh, and the Kargo crew for arranging a great day of MTB.
